Amateurs hit the bottom this week after losing a crucial game against local rivals Ormond at E.E.Gunn Reserve on Saturday in the VAFA Premier C penultimate round. A week after accounting for top Mazenod at home, the Krushers were quietly confident of victory and keeping their hopes of staying in C grade alive, however Ormond had other ideas and leapt out of the blocks booting 5 unanswered goals in the first 20 minutes before Oakleigh managed 3 late goals to go to the first break 18 points down. An improvement in the second term saw the Oaks claw their way back but an inability to convert up forward had them trailing by 5 points at the long break.

The third term proved an even contest with Ormond managing to hold on to a 6 point advantage at the last change. Oakleigh lifted again in the final term working their way to the front but couldn’t hold on to the lead as the ‘Monders rallied kicking the last 4 goals of the game to win by 24 points. Aaron Cloke led the Oaks goalkicking with 4 and Trevor Bromley added 2. Corey Moore, Zac Barrett and Tim Scott were in the best for Oakleigh.

The reserves battled hard but were no match for a superior Ormond in the early game. Oakleigh could manage only 1 goal to Ormonds 10 in the first half and, although they improved in the second half, they couldn’t stop the Monders who ran away to an 88 point victory.

The U/19s travelled to Garvey Oval to play Old Paradians and managed to take a 4 point lead into the main break but couldn’t manage a goal in the third term and faded in the last to go down by 19 points.
