Oakleigh Amateurs bounced back from the disappointing effort of last week with a dominant second half against PEGS on Saturday in the VAFA Premier C division sixth round at PEGS playing fields. Although depleted by injury, the Krushers were keen to make amends for the fade-out against Old Ivanhoe , began full of confidence but PEGS proved equal to the task and kept the Oaks to a one goal lead at the first change. The second term saw Oakleigh begin to take charge with a 5 goal burst and a 24 point lead at the long break.
PEGS fought back in the third with 4 goals but couldn’t stop the Krushers from adding another 5 and opening up a 31 point lead going into the last quarter. The Krushers dominated the final term with 8 goals before PEGS managed 3 in the closing stages to cut the deficit to 61 points at the bell. Trevor Bromley put on a vintage display booting 6 goals for Oakleigh with Aaron Cloke adding 4 and Tim Scott and Jack Davidson chipping in with 2 each. Stuart Wines, Pat Ioannidis and Rob Holden were in the best for the Krushers.
The reserves battled hard against the odds but were no match for competition leaders PEGS and went down by 100 points. Jake Benoiton booted 3 for the Krushers with Tom Nolan, Nathan Miller and Rod Gonzalez among the best.
An undermanned U/19s travelled to W.R.Ruthven Reserve for a date with the Northern Blues and, although they fought gamely, they couldn’t keep pace with their more fancied opponents and fell by 56 points. Anmol Malhotra booted 6 goals and Alex Swan added 3 for the Oaks with Scott Murray, Chris Pearson and Ben Scott among the best.
