It was a dismal day for Oakleigh on Saturday as all three teams failed to fire. With respect to the reserves though, they did fight back before time ran out. The seniors, on the other hand, managed to undo a very good first half with an insipid second half against Old Ivanhoe in a very scrappy, error riddled match at Scammell Reserve. After having first use of the wind and taking an 11 point lead into quarter time, the Krushers opened up a 22 point advantage midway through the second before Ivanhoe got going with the breeze and cut it back to 2 points at the long break.

An early goal to Oakleigh had the faithful hoping it would be the start of the much needed big quarter to set up a victory. However, Old Ivanhoe had other ideas and ran rings around the Krushers as they booted the next 5 goals to go to the final term with a 4 goal lead. It didn’t get any better for Oakleigh as they managed only 1-4 for the quarter to Old Ivanhoe’s 4-7 and were left 45 points adrift at the final bell. Gary Bennett led the goalkicking for Oakleigh with 3 and Aaron Cloke added 2. Jack Davidson, Liam Hard and Baden Wass were among the Krushers best.

The reserves were looking good at the long break in the early game but a dreadful third term had them 6 goals behind at the last change and, despite a spirited fightback in the final quarter which got them to within 9 points, the difference proved too great and the fell 15 points short at the siren. Jake Benoiton kicked 3 goals for Oakleigh with Jake Pappon and Josh Revere adding 2 each, Kevin Holden, Chris Mercuri and Zac Thiessens were among the best.

The U/19s took on St.Kevins at T.H.King Oval in the U/19s section 4 and, after a promising if low scoring first half, fell away in the second as the hosts took control of the game to run away with a 68 point win. Lucas Cloke, Nathan Fredericks and Corey Moore were in Oakleigh’s best.
