Jack Davidson – 50 Games

Oakleigh failed to fire against Marcellin in Saturdays VAFA Premier C match at Scammell Reserve. A goalless opening term, which is no way to start a game you hope to win, left the Krushers 21 points adrift at the first change. Hopes were raised after a fighting second quarter realised 5 goals to Marcellins 3 and slashed the deficit to 8 points at the long break. An early goal in the third term had the Oakleigh faithful cheering but then Marcellin kicked it up a gear and booted 7 unanswered goals to effectively blow the Oaks away. Another 4 to the visitors had the margin out to 11 goals late in the last quarter but, to their credit, Oakleigh fought back with 4 of their own to cut the final margin to 44 points. Aaron Cloke led Oakleighs goal kicking with 5 with Tim Scott adding 3 and Trevor Bromley 2. Liam Gillard, Aaron Binns and Dermot Cleary were among the Oaks best.

The early game had an under manned Krushers battle hard with little reward against a sharper Marcellin. Oakleigh, with only two reserves, never really got going as the visitors ran the ball well and got out to a 30 point lead at half-time. Oakleigh fared better in the second half but couldn’t put any scoreboard pressure on the Eagles and succumbed by 42 points at the bell. Steve Buchanan, in his first game back after a long rest due to a broken leg, booted 2 goals for Oakleigh with Luke Morin, Peter Holden and Josh Revere among the best.

The one shining light for the day came from the U/19s who played for Oakleigh Carnegie RSL Cup at Warrawee Park against Point Cook. The young Krushers dominated proceedings, keeping the Bulldogs goalless in the first term and scoreless in the third and ran out comfortable winners by 75 points. Ryan Henderson and Anmol Malhotra led the goal kicking with 3 each, Zac Barrett, Nick Di Cioccio and Ben Swan were among the best.
