A wayward Oakleigh overcame a sluggish first half in Saturdays VAFA Premier C fourth round at Banyule to storm home by 51 points. Banyule took the initiative in the first term and took a 14 point advantage into quarter time, a deficit the Krushers managed to reduce by a solitary point by the main break.
It was after half-time that Oakleigh began rolling booting 5-6 to 3-3 in the third term to take a 2 point lead into the final change. The last quarter was all Oakleigh as the Krushers peppered the goals for a 7-8 return keeping the Bears to a point. Josh Paola and Steve Tolongs shared goal kicking honours for Oakleigh with 4 apiece with Gary Bennett, Dermott Cleary and Liam Hard adding 2 each. Aisea Valentini and Baden Wass in his 50th senior game were among Oakleigh’s best.
In the early game, a determined Oakleigh overcame an equally determined Banyule to win by 9 points. Tommy Golik and Jake Paola kicked 3 goals each with Jack Hind chipping in with 2 for Oakleigh. Will Manning, Matt Wass and Adam Matthieson were among the Krushers best.
The U/19s played host to second placed Ormond at Scammell Reserve in the U/19 South division 4th round. After an even first term, the visitors gradually pulled away from the young Krushers keeping them goalless in the final term and emerging 24 point victors. Michael Tate booted 2 goals for Oakleigh with Luke Pearson, Scott Murray and Mason Ansell among the best.
