Oakleigh Fall Short.
In the VAFA Premier C second round on Saturday, Oakleigh hosted a triple header at Scammell Reserve with the seniors and reserves taking on Williamstown CYMS and the U/19s playing Parkside. With a depleted list due to injuries, the Krushers nevertheless took on the challenge and gave it their best shot turning a goalless first term and 8 point deficit at the first change into a 5 point lead at the main break.
Williamstown hit back in the third quarter with 6 goals to Oakleigh’s 1 to take a 28 point lead into the final change and despite a spirited effort by the Krushers, the visitors held on for a 22 point win. Aaron Cloke and Stuart Wines kicked 3 goals each for Oakleigh with Dermot Cleary, Ben Hogan and Tim Michael among the best. Of major concern for Oakleigh was vice-captain Pat DiSiervi being knocked unconscious in a clash with an opponent. After being stretchered from the ground, he was taken by ambulance to hospital for tests and, hopefully, will have no lasting effects. All at the club wish him the best.
The reserves match was a tough encounter with both teams giving everything. The Oaks showed the way in the first half of a low scoring affair keeping the visitors to 1 goal up to the long break but Williamstown lifted in the second half to run out 13 point victors. Nathan Miller kicked 2 goals for Oakleigh with Adam Mathiesson, Josh Revere and Andrew Murray in the best players.
The first game saw the young Krushers outclassed for three quarters by a sharp Parkside being kept to 1 goal up to three quarter time with a 6 goal final term adding some respectability to the score line but falling short by 56 points. Lucas Cloke and Anmol Malhotra booted 2 goals each for the Oaks with Jake Ford, Chris Galanos and Brodie Weymouth among Oakleigh’s best players.
