VALE – Norm Walsh

Norm had begun his sporting involvement in 1966 on the Victorian Little Athletics Steering Committee and also began his tenure in footy at OSHFC from 1969 to 1979 and being President in 1975. He was awarded the 1976 Life Governor Award for community sport.
At Oakleigh FC in VFA, from 1980 to 1992 where he became the General Manager for 2 years, Secretary for 3 years and president for 1 year. Norm was also a VFA delegate from 1982 to 1990 He received VFA Life Membership
In his time as Secretary and General Manager 1993 to 2009 for the Krushers it must be noted that Norm, something of a stickler for rules and regulations, had no easy time of it given that the club at the time was largely populated by larrikins and ratbags with little respect for authority. It was not unusual to see Norm shaking his head and”tut-tutting”.
Norm was awarded OAFC Life Membership in1996 and in 2000 the Australian Sports Medal Award followed by the2001 MCC recreation award for his service to sport. He was a recipient of the Sir John Monash community leadership 2006 for services to sport. He was awarded the Oakleigh Community Sporting Club Life Membership in 2006
For a bloke that has received many accolades he certainly was very humble about them.
Rest in peace Norm….And thank you for a job well done.

Barry Alexander and Neil Smith
